5 Ways to Naturally Heal Your Body In Sobriety.

  • Make sleep a priority.

Have you used alcohol to sleep? Or had crazy sleep patterns from binge drinking?

Believe it or not, alcohol actually disrupts healthy sleep patterns.

So, while it might make you feel drowsy, it’s still not doing the job. Luckily, you can turn this around!

By cutting out alcohol, you can improve your sleep cycle.

Here’s how - develop a routine and stick to it. There are so many tricks to help your body wind down and get to sleep. For example - reading, herbal tea, calming music, meditation, journaling, etc. Find something that works for YOU!

Try this nighttime GOLD tea from Organifi to ease you right into sweet dreams! They use high-quality, great-tasting ingredients. This tea is perfect for bedtime or when you need to hit the pause button.

It may take time to nail down your perfect sleep routine, but once you do, stick to it! Over time, you’ll adjust to this routine and be able to replace alcohol with a well-thought-out routine.

Part of healing your body is making sure it gets what it needs, and part of that equation is sleep.

  • Move your body in a way that’s comfortable for you.

Part of healing your body is making sure you’re moving.

The good news is that you don’t have to do pilates every day to accomplish this. There are a million and one ways you can move your body.

Part of building a routine that you’ll stick to is making sure that you actually enjoy it! In my 1:1 coaching program, I work with women to develop an exercise routine that doesn’t feel like another chore on this list. Here are a few examples of fun exercises:

  • Crank up the music and have a 20-minute dance party
  • Go on a walk to explore your city
  • Ask a friend to try a fitness class with you
  • Find a new hiking spot
  • Put in what you want to get out.

Do you want more energy? Decreased inflammation? Less soreness? Well, you’ve got to put the right nutrients into your body to get those results. If you know someone that’s sober, you can see that many people in sobriety glow from the inside out!

There’s a reason for this transformation. When you’re putting poison into your body, of course, you’re going to feel like crap. I know it, and you know it too.

I’m sure you’re thinking, “okay, Courtney, but how?”

Well, it’s easier than you might think. As the world slowly gets back to normal, we’re busy and on the go again. Organifi makes it super easy for me to make sure my body is getting all the nutrients that it needs. Their superfood blends have the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants you need to keep it movin’.

I’m recommending their products here because they focus on recovery, healing, and stress reduction. The Greens are a must to start healing your body. Use code "sobervibes" and save 20% off. As a sobriety coach, I have students that rely on me for solid advice. Because of that, I make it my mission only to recommend products that I believe in!

  • Find activities that speak to your soul.

In recovery, you’re working on every aspect of your health. When we talk about healing your body, most people think about physical health. But, your mental health can have a serious impact on your physical body.

Have you ever felt like you’re doing all the right things (eating well and exercising), but you still feel off? It’s likely because your mind isn’t right.

My advice to you is this - find something that makes you feel motivated and inspired. Whether that is writing, running, making videos, drawing, whatever it is … you need something that makes you happy!

This motivation will fuel the other parts of your life that aren’t as exciting - like the dishes. You can use this activity as a reward for doing not-so-fun tasks.

Often, finding your passion in life can lead you to new opportunities! That might be new friendships, new financial opportunities, or career moves. When you love what you do, the possibilities are endless.

Finding passion in sobriety is one of many ways that people STAY sober and motivated.

  • Develop healthy stress-relief habits.

Lastly, when stress does come your way, the best thing you can do is be prepared. In recovery, you’re learning how to cope with stress without a substance to lean on. I know that it’s tough to branch out and find new tools and resources, but wow, it makes a huge difference!

Do some work to identify your triggers. When one comes your way, have a list of things you can do to take the place of a substance.

Here are a few effective ways to manage stress:

  • Deep breathing or breathwork
  • Make time for hobbies and passions
  • Talk about your trigger out loud (even to yourself)
  • Meditation
  • Play with or talk to your pet
  • Connect with a supportive friend
  • Journal your thoughts
  • Watch something educational like a TED talk or documentary
